Now at the Taiwan Miniatures Museum, the 'Rose Mansion was my first serious study of the Aesthetic Movement in 1" scale. This Victorian mansion is based on the LJ Rose and LL Bradbury mansions in Los Angeles. Here is a video tour of the model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tg99No84exA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tg99No84exA
Bar Harbor Cottage: Inspired by the work of architect William R. Emerson, considered the dean of the 'Shingle Style,' this one-room study of an 1880s Maine coastal resort cottage, this house, completed 20 years ago, was based on Emerson's masterpiece for Chicago railroad tycoon William B. Howard, 'Mossley Hall' (no longer standing) at Bar Harbor, Maine. In building the house I used Emerson's style throughout, including the thousands of shingles I cut and placed myself.
Interior, Bar Harbor Cottage, featuring typical 'Modern Colonial' style finish, the central feature being the large open brick hearth. Its simple hand-rubbed cherry paneling, ceiling and bay window seat are gently set off by William Morris 'Willow' wall coverings. The flooring is hand-laid and polished Gum Wood. Furnishings are typical of the mix of fine art and comfortable pieces popular among resort 'cottages' of the period.
Looking through the Dutch door of the entry, one is immediately drawn to the Chippendale lowboy by Gideon Wolf, on which is showcased a beautiful lidded jar by Le Chateau and a matching bowl by China Closet (Teresa Welch).
